Early life
He was born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria, in November 1939.

Career


After joining the Pa Oyinade Adejobi-founded Oyin Adejobi theatre group in 1960, he went on to join Duro Ladipo’s Theatre Group, where he played “Chief Basa” in the stage drama Obamoro. He rose to fame after playing the lead part of Soun Ogunola in the epic Yoruba film Ogbori Elemosho, in which he gained notoriety as a result. Since he began performing in 1963, he has appeared in, produced, and directed numerous Nigerian films. The former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo awarded him and Zeb Ejiro a National Award of Member of the Federal Republic in 2005 in appreciation of their significant contributions to Nigerian cinema. According to reports, he suffered a partial stroke in May of that year but recovered. He won N1m in a Nigerian game show called Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in April 2014.
