All You Need To Know About Adeoyo Fawaz, The Chess Tournament Winner, Who Lives Under Oshodi Bridge

Let the world know that greatness can be found in many unlikely places. The above statement become a reality after the rise of a chess prodigy, Adeoyo Fawaz in a “popular neighborhood” in Lagos. For someone living under the Oshodi bridge in lagos, a representation of poverty and hustlers feeding from hand to mouth, can we call it God’s grace and goodness to elevate a boy in his youthful age to a level of more grace?

In an authentic story that would become a real hit if instituted in the Nollywood/Hollywood film industry, a teenager known as Adeoye Fawaz is resurrected as the ashes of a phoenix to touch the blue sky. Fawaz works as a “teenage bus driver” and lived his years under the Oshodi Bridge, but in December 14, 2021, Christmas came early for Fawaz as he became the overall champion of chess and mental math in a competition created by Tunde Onakoya.

Chess in the slum of Africa, a nonprofit organization that uses chess to promote education in low-income communities, organized chess training for 51 homeless children living under the bridge in Oshodi, Lagos state. Fawaz is one of the children trained in chess and mental arithmetic, where they were given several puzzles to solve. There is no doubt that Fawaz’s life is about to change for the better, as donations are already arriving to fund his education and indeed that of his fellow competitors. It’s the stuff of dreams.

In addition to the prize money and other gifts he won, Dr. Adeola Olubamiji, the founder of StemHub publicised her motive to send him the sum of two hundred thousand naira as compensation.
