Legendary Nigerian comedian and actor Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, has opined on why he feels Nigerian women do not want to get involved in politics. The Nigerian political space is filled with mostly men, as most Nigerian women prefer to stay on the sidelines.
According to Ali Baba, women shy away from politics in Nigeria because it is structured in a way that makes it less attractive for them. Ali Baba noted that women would not want to be part of a faulty system that means they have to be dishonest to carry out their responsibilities.

The comedian also said a few women who venture into politics in Nigeria are discouraged due to what they have to go through to serve the masses.
In a social media post, the thespian said:
“The structure in politics is made in a way to demotivate the women from participating in politics. See why women run away from politics? Women don’t want to be part of a flawed system. Or lie to be in a position of service…And the few women who brave it are frustrated out… #inec #elections #voters #campaign #politics #nigeria #government.’’
Ali Baba’s post is coming on the heels of the February 25, 2023, presidential election that was marred by rigging, violence, and other forms of electoral malpractice.
Despite calls on the President to halt the results announcement procedure, which was manipulated, appeals fell on deaf ears as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was declared winner of the election on March 1, 2023.
Of the major presidential candidates, Peter Obi is the only one who promised to address the issue of women’s non-involvement in politics by pushing for a bill that will allocate a percentage of seats in the national assembly to women.
