Oscar award winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, has finally addressed trending reports online about her being a lesbian.

Lately there has been rumours making rounds about her about her allegedly having a romantic relationship with her best friend, singer Janelle Monáe.
The celebrity friends first met at the 2014 Met Gala, few moments after Lupita won an Oscar for her stellar acting in the movie titled “12 Years a Slave”.
Since then there has been speculations of a suspected romantic relationship between the two from different angles. The reasons are not farfetched, it is due to their awkward closeness.
In reaction to the rumours in a recent cover story on ‘Rolling Stone Magazine’, Lupita stated that she understands reasons people assume she is in a romantic relationship with Monae. This is because the singer is pansexual.
According to her Monae has some kind of magnetism (easily accessible ) that people were picking on.
Lupita’s reaction,
“She has magnetism that they were obviously picking up on, She is that enigmatic. I was not surprised. And I don’t mind being associated with her in any capacity.”
She also added that Monae treated her with cordiality when they first met at The Met Gala in 2014. As at that time she was still new to the industry.
She noted,
“This world was still extremely new to me and unbelievable,…“[Janelle] came up to me and just gave me the realest hug”.
“I think we may have swayed to the music. She was just like, ‘I’m so proud of you, and just thank you for being you’.
“At some point, [Janelle] asked me for my phone, put her number in and said, ‘Let’s stay in touch’. She was like, ‘I really mean it. If you need anything, I’m here for you’.”
However inspite of the bond of friendship, they share, Lupita noted that she doesn’t ‘know everything’ about Janelle Monae.
“Just because you’re a close friend doesn’t mean you get to know everything about her. That’s what makes her interesting as an artist.”
