Hollywood actor, Carl Weathers has passed away at the age of seventy-six.
Weathers became famous or being Sylvester Stallone’s early nemesis in the ‘Rocky’ movies.
According to reports, Weathers passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, while surrounded by loved ones.
In a statement, his family said
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Carl was a heavyweight in the movie industry, boasting acting credits that trace back to the early 1970s when he made guest appearances on shows such as ‘Good Times,’ ‘Kung Fu,’ ‘S.W.A.T.,’ ‘The Six Million Dollar Man,’ ‘Cannon,’ ‘McCloud,’ and others.
He secured his breakthrough role as the brash and bold heavyweight champion of the world, Apollo, facing off against Rocky in the ring for two films.
Carl’s character remained present for an additional two ‘Rocky’ films. In the third installment, he played a pivotal role in bringing the Italian Stallion out of a slump and back to glory through a new and unconventional training regimen.
Although Apollo was killed off in ‘Rocky IV,’ his legacy persists in the movie franchise. Michael B. Jordan portrays his fictional son in the ongoing and successful ‘Creed’ films, which continue to be produced in Hollywood.
