Grimes has stepped forward to defend Lizzo, who is being sued by three dancers who accuse her of s£xual harassment and presiding over a toxic work environment, glamsquad reports
The 35-year-old musician, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, issued a message on social media on Sunday in support of Lizzo, who was named in a civil suit filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday by dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez.
‘I adore Lizzo. ‘I’m not saying I don’t trust people when awful things happen, but I had dancers mistreated on my watch in ways I didn’t find out about until much later,’ claimed the Canadian singer, who is married to tech tycoon Elon Musk, 52.
‘Lizzo was kind to me and others for a decade before she was “cool”, and she checked in on me when no one cared,’ the Welcome to the Opera artist said. ‘I’ve only ever seen exemplary behavior from her, especially when everyone was hating on me and she was on top of the world.
‘There was no reason for her to check in, besides to be a good person. Just my two cents. I recall when she first blew up being so happy because I’d never known such an admirable person to find fame in the music industry.’
Grimes claimed she couldn’t believe she’d changed so drastically, and she’s ‘weary of a civilization that attempts to destroy its finest characteristics.’
Grimes also responded to those who questioned her statement, claiming that Lizzo treated her nicely due of her celebrity and status.
‘Grimes it’s because you’re rich and wealthy and have influence, Lizzo is a classist abuser who doesn’t believe people “on her level” deserve respect,’ one user said.
Grimes responded by expressing that Lizzo had been kind to her even though it was not in her best interests.
‘Before Elon, when she blew big, Lizzo was lovely to me and I was still indie as f***,’ she said. ‘She was friendly to me in 2012, when no one cared about either of us.
‘She checked in while I was cancelled while pregnant, when most people abandoned me because they didn’t want the association, she was compassionate while I was merely a liability to her. I admire his tenacity. That is a nice individual.’
Another commenter cited convicted batterer Chris Brown and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein as examples of other scandal-plagued celebs.
‘Chris Brown was friendly to me, so he never struck Rihanna,’ said the user. Grimes is correct. Someone who is pleasant to you is nice to everyone. As Tarantino stated about Weinstein. “I never saw it happen right in front of me.”
Grimes did not respond to Weinstein’s remark, but added that Rihanna’s forgiveness of Chris Brown following his 2009 assaults on her is consistent with her long-held convictions.
‘In the aftermath, Rihanna has supported Chris Brown because Rihanna appears to care about restorative justice,’ Grimes added. ‘
*Assuming* Lizzo is guilty (without a trial, which violates democracy), it’s amusing to me that the same individuals who advocate for restorative justice are opposed to it for someone who has committed a crime.
