Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth, a Nigerian actor and comedian recently issued an official statement outlining his reasons for not participating in the presidential election of 2023.
His explanation that he performed outside of Nigeria and that his overseas gigs were scheduled a year in advance in order to obtain a nice location looked sincere.
He would have faced logistical difficulties if he had changed the location because of the election date.

He wrote:
“I have always spoken up about the wrongs in this country. It’s quite unfortunate that I missed elections this year. However, my international show are planned one year so as to secure the date and venue.
“To have changed my date on such short notice would have been a logistical hazard not to myself but to the whole crew. Elections have not always been in February.”
Basketmouth, who is well known for speaking out against wrongdoings in Nigeria, also expressed gratitude to Nigerian youths and supporters who cast their ballots.
He said:
“I am proud of every Nigerian Youth for taking a stand. Thank you to my true fans that understood and still came out for me.
