Since her debut in Nollywood as an actress, Uzor Osimkpa has done nothing but give us great screen and stage performance, making us laugh and interpreting roles effortlessly. Interview first published in Vanguard Allure
What is a fashion to you?
Fashion is you and what you make of it. Fashion for me is a comfort.
So how would you describe your style?
My style is comfortable. I have to be comfortable with anything I wear.
What fashion secret do you employ to look as good as you look?
All these na packaging! (laughs)we package everything in this industry…n I mean some of us have acne, receding hairlines, old cornrows that we cover up with our wigs but we have do package it up nicely and look good because we want to sell our market (laughs). But the truth is, despite how much work you were doing before, you want to appear in front of everyone looking put together and for people to appreciate the effort you have made in ensuring you look presentable. So even if you’re styling yourself or being styled, you want to look good and have something that suits your body type and for me, I’ll always opt for comfort.
Do you have a beauty secret?
My sister, I just try to make sure I wash my face o, no secret in that (laughs) but seriously speaking, in this business as actors, our face is our market and we don’t want breakout, so you want to ensure you don’t have discoloration, your skin is not inflamed, or even after a bad acne you don’t have scars, but even after that I ensure I visit a skin doctor who tells me what to do internally and externally to achieve the best result for my skin. Sometimes I am breaking out in every area of my skin, like my forehead or chin and my doctor would recommend what I should do.
Any regular beauty regimen?
Most times in the morning when I wake up I Wash my face, the soap I use keeps acne at bay and one of the things I don’t go without is sunscreen. I do not miss using it especially here in Nigeria where it is always hot and you have to protect your skin from skin damages.
How do you relax?
I’m a home girl, so when I’m not working, I’m at home. I try as much as I can to make my space comfortable and happy to be enough for me. My house no dey shook me. I could be my own company without feeling bored and that’s how much of myself I enjoy. It’s not as if I’ll be dancing or tickling myself and laughing, but there’s always something that’ll keep me through time with just me and myself especially now that we have so much going on the internet.
What’s your ideal vacation spot?
I love Cape Town. I visited Cape Town and it was beautiful! But they’re other places I would like to visit that I haven’t been to before. Although I’ll be taking another vacation soon it is just another good old place I’ve been to before.
How would you describe your eating habits?
I dey chop anything I see! (laughs) I eat anything I feel like eating and I noticed that I’ve gained a little weight, which I actually like as it is not an unhealthy kind of weight. You know people sometimes look at me and say “Uzor you work out too much, you’re looking skinny and all”, nobody wants to look skinny and dry na, so I’m happy with this kind of weight I’ve gained. I’m working to get to 70kg, presently I’m at 5, so I’m close.
So what are you passionate about in life?
I’m passionate about making positive changes in wherever we find ourselves and in whatever positions we find ourselves because no matter how we depend on the government, actual change can come when we have common sense.
What’s your watchword in life?
Live and let live. Live your life and let other people live theirs.

Life rule; don’t get caught, don’t get killed. Beauty rule; always look like you (laughs) because some people can make up and look like someone else, and for fashion rule; be comfortable and make sure it suits you.
