Somkele Iyamah Beyond The Screen

Toronto International Film Festival 2016 rising star Somkele Iyamah Idhalama has had such an impressive career despite staring in a few movies. Staring in the critically acclaimed Danny Glover biopic movie 93 Days which helped the world see her potentials thereby winning a trail blazzer awards at this year’s AMVCA 2017 driving home a brand new car. Somkele covered the latest issue of Genevieve magazine where she shared pictures of herself in bikin at a private ranch farm. 

Now who is Somkele Iyamah?

Somkele  Iyamah Idhalama has been included in some of the Nigerian film industry’s better productions. In 2016, she became a name to reckon with after three films she starred in went to premiere at the Toronto International Film festival (TIFF). In the same year, she was also selected as the first female international TIFF Rising Star. Her first TV appearance was in the critically acclaimed TV series, GIDI UP as YVONNE, where she worked with award winning actor and co TIFF Rising Star, O.C. Ukeje directed by Jadesola Osiberu. Officially starting her acting career in 2012, her first feature film was with director Neville Ossai in Dreamwalker. She has also played the supporting actress beside Hollywood acclaimed veteran, Danny Glover in the hugely successful biopic, 93 Days. She has also worked alongside veterans in Nollywood such as Bimbo Akintola, Richard Mofe Damijo, Rita Dominic and many others.

      Somkele holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from McMaster University, Canada. Her interest in the arts was ignited after playing the lead role in an adaptation of The Prodigal Son: The Clown while attending Grange School in Lagos Nigeria. Never looking back, all extra-curricular activities were in drama, dance and sports up to her time in university. She volunteered in several shows for charity at McMaster during the semester and modeled for pay during the holidays back home in Nigeria some of which included work for Virgin Nigeria, Harp, ETB and Visafone Communications.

        When she is not in front of the camera, she is behind the scenes managing the fashion brand, Andrea Iyamah, which was founded by the head designer, Dumebi Iyamah. Being an active mother, wife, daughter and sister, of all her involvements, family is most important to her. Apart from looking forward to working with the great talents in her industry and abroad, Somkele is really a girl living life the best way she feels how.
