Shopping for the rainy season

By Pamela Echemunor

The wet season has come once again, say good bye to the heat wave and welcome to the downpour. The best part about this season is that one can use this opportunity to not only rejuvenate the damaged skin that the hot weather brought about, but to do some shopping as well. During this period, there are certain outfits and accessories that work best, so here are some tips on setting up your wardrobe for the rainy season.

Dark colours

Dark coloured clothes work best in the cold weather because they help keep you warm. Opt for darker hues like royal purple, black, deep green and dark red.

Bye bye sheer, welcome wool

Sheer is so sunny day, push those see through clothes to the back of your closet and go shopping for some wooly and cotton fabrics because with rain, comes the chill.

Rubber sole shoes

This season rubber shoes and rubber soles are in, leave the expensive leather behind to avoid damaging it, because a bright sunny day this season doesn’t always end that way.

Mix and match accessories

Go playful this season, you’ll definitely need an umbrella so why not try out something fancy by matching your umbrella with what you’re wearing, i.e an Ankara umbrella to match your dress or even a red umbrella to match your dress and shoes.

Leave the pants and do more dresses and skirts

Now will be a good time to leave the pants and do more dresses and skirts. Opt for pencil skirts and turtle neck tops, this way you can still show some skin and avoid the bottom damaging the hem on your pants.

Long sleeves Vs Short sleeves

This is the season of the long sleeve tops, if you don’t want to wear a sweater ,opt for long sleeve tops and add a sheer scarf to the mix for more flavour.

Go Poncho

One rainy season fashion favourite is the Mexican inspired poncho, it acts as a makeshift scarf/sweater without sleeves and it always looks fabulous.
