One of the leading fashion designer in Nigeria, Maki Osakwe popularly known as “ Maki Oh” exhibited had its grand opening of photography exhibition at Miliki events centre Victoria Island, Lagos.
The exhibition themed “ This side up” featured more than 15 works of framed photographs which delves into the truth about the feminine and how they have been transformed, altered and hidden in the society.
Speaking with Glamsquad magazine, The creative director of women swear label “ Maki Oh” who turned art photography as an alternate form of expression, gave inspiration behind her works. “ I got the inspiration from my last collection, the idea that have been working on through the clothes. It based on virginity, the original meaning of the word virginity before it was changed, . The baby born by a virgin should be a respected child, but the society attributed another meaning to the word Virginity.
“ The process serves as forms of storytelling as it explores dipping, folding, and painting over as methods through which truths about the feminine have been concealed. With the work, the subject represents a blank canvas for commentary on the historical notions of purity”.
Amaka Osakwe Nigerian fashion designer and creator of the only African based fashion label named Maki Oh. She leads her womanswear label since 2010 from Lagos, one of the few Nigerian-based brands that are globally acknowledged.
