Naomi Campbell quite deservingly, is to receive the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award at this year’s Fashion Awards.
“It is truly an honour to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon award,” Campbell told the CFDA. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers that have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”
She will join a varied list of past celebrity recipients: including Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna and Johnny Depp. Naomi Campbell is undeniably a goddess-whose body of work has earned her all the award nominations that the fashion industry has to offer.
Campbell has appeared on over 500 magazine covers throughout her long and illustrious career. She was the first black model on the cover of Time and French Vogue, and one of the original five supermodels who appeared in George Michael’s 1990 “Freedom” music video.
“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion,” CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said “Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.”
A major CONGRATULATIONS Naomi!!!
