Idris Elba Joins Taylor Swift in ‘Cats’ Movie Adaptation

Idris Elba has been revealed as latest actor joining the crew of the live-action adaptation of Cats.

According to ComicBook, Elba is reportedly in final negotiations to join the film which will be directed by Tom Hooper.

The adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical will also star Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Taylor Swift. The film is slated to head into production later this year and land in theaters on December 20, 2019.

The original Broadway show debuted in 1981 and was previously adapted into a made-for-TV movie in 1998.

This is yet another major leap for Elba who has become a box office success; he earned his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the original Thor, in which he played Heimdall. His character was killed off in Avengers: Infinity War.  Will he return?

He is currently filming Hobbes & Shaw, a spinoff of the Fast and Furious franchise, which also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham.

We can’t wait to see his performance in Cats.
